Dr. Fulcher’s higher educational journey began at the University of South Carolina in Columbia where he earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry. He then pursued his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). There he achieved numerous academic and service awards and graduated as class valedictorian in 1987.
Next, Dr. Fulcher obtained his Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Emory University in Atlanta. At Emory, he was the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Howard Higgins Scholarship and received several other academic and service accolades.
Since 1990, Dr. Fulcher has served as a clinical professor in the Department of Orthodontics at MUSC. He remains committed to sharing his expertise and staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in orthodontics by collaborating with residents and fellow faculty members. This past September, Dr. Fulcher was selected to receive the James Edwards College of Dental Medicine Faculty Award for 2022. He has enjoyed creating beautiful smiles for patients in offices in Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, Cane Bay and St. George during the past 33 years.
Dr. Fulcher’s professional achievements extend beyond these clinical practices and his work at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Dentists in 2015 and then into the International College of Dentists in 2022. Dr. Fulcher is an active member of esteemed professional associations including the American Association of Orthodontics, Southern Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, South Carolina Association of Orthodontists, and Charleston Dental Society.
Dr. Fulcher believes in the value of service outside his professional endeavors. He has been a dedicated Rotarian since 1996 and has served as the president of his Mt. Pleasant and Summerville Rotary Clubs. His commitment to community involvement and leadership was recognized in 2022 when he was the recipient of the Thomas A. Bryce Memorial Award for Distinguished Leadership. Dr. Fulcher has also enjoyed volunteering his time at Bethany United Methodist Church and with schools in Dorchester District 2 and The ARK of Summerville.
Dr. Fulcher is a proud father of four children and cherishes time spent with his family when they can be together. The Fulcher family has participated in mission trips to Ecuador over the past 6 years. They also enjoy time spent together on the water on Lake Marion, snow skiing anywhere, and numerous outdoor activities such as golfing, axe throwing, and camping. It’s also no secret Dr. Fulcher enjoys dancing (2017 Silver Ball DWAS winner) and acting in local productions when he finds time away from creating beautiful smiles.
